A beautifully crafted set of 4 Windsor style dining chairs. Primarily made from elm, the saddle seats show of the patterned wood grain and sit on ornate turned legs joined together by H stretchers, ensuring strength and support. The seat backs are hooped supported by spindles and a central vertical wood design. The splayed turned legs and curved seats give an elegant look to these dining chairs.
3 of the chairs have the initials JG on the back of the seats, which is likely to be John Gibbons from Glenister and Gibbons Furniture Makers of High Wycombe founded in 1839. The core of their business was Windsor style chairs.
The chairs have been well cared for, the only signs of age being very light surface scratches on the chair seats. One of the central splats has a small split through the wooden circle (please see photos).
