A handsome Jacobean style bureau from the early 1900's. It has decorative geometric mouldings on the front panels and lovely barley twist legs. The metal pull handles on the drawers also have a twist like pattern which compliments the style of the legs. The drop down lid of the bureau rests on 2 arms which automatically open out when the lid is opened.
There are 6 pigeonholes and a small drawer in the bureau, handy for storing documents and stationery. The drop down lid easily accommodates a laptop computer. I have sourced a replacement key so documents can be locked away in the bureau. (Please see photo 10.) Below this are two good sized drawers.
This is a lovely bureau that would be useful to work from home on or simply to sit and write at.
It has been well cared for, with just a few nicks and dents. The inside of the bureau has some ink stains on it and there is a gap of a few millimetres between the 2 pieces of wood that make up the drop down lid, as there is in the top drawer between the base of the drawer and the front panel. The drawers have ink and white paint stains inside them. Please study photos. However it is a sold, well made oak bureau and has certainly stood the test of time.
