This is a wonderfully versatile Ercol Serving Cabinet. Produced in the 50s it was designed to serve food from. The top part of the cabinet could be used for storing dinner and tea services and the drop down door was made strong enough to carve meat from. Nowadays it could be used as a drinks cabinet, bureau, linen storage or hall cupboard.
It is quite a rare piece of Ercol furniture as it is raised on four out swept spindle legs with stretcher supports, giving it a very stylish look - rather than the 60s version which has shepherds castors. The cupboard has a shelf which can be adjusted to different heights or removed altogether. The top part of the cabinet also has adjustable or removable shelves. There is a very useful drawer at the bottom of the unit. Even the back of the cabinet is beautifully crafted meaning that it can be used as a room divider if you wish, rather than being placed against a wall. The wood grain adds extra style to this piece of furniture. There is a bluey green Ercol sticker on the inside of the right hand cupboard door stating that this is an Ercol production.
The cabinet has been well used and cared for. There are a few surface scratches on the top of the unit - only seen in bright light. Also there are a few little chips and nicks as would be expected from a piece of furniture over 70 years old. (Please see photos.)
