This is a very decorative Arts and Crafts Bureau. It is made from oak and has 2 beautiful copper handles on the drawer and lovely carvings crafted out of the oak attachments. It is a versatile bureau in that is has 2 shelves to store books on, a drawer and several compartments for storing writing materials inside the bureau plus a shelf above it for displaying collectibles. The bureau has a key to lock away any important papers. It is narrow so easily stored in small places. The bureau would also make a handy laptop desk.

It is lovely to find out the provenance of this bureau. It has the words Reverand Mother on the back of the bureau and the address - Park House, Waterloo, Liverpool. When I researched it there was a story in a newspaper about Park House being a former convalescence and nursing hospital turned guest house, which has been run by the Augustinian Sisters since 1902 but has sadly recently closed down. I have attached a photo of the House when it was first opened as a nursing hospital.

As you will see from the photos the bureau has a crack in the wood where the drop down lid is (on the under side but not the top side) and a few marks and small dints here and there (please zoom in on photos) however for a bureau that is over a 100 years old it has survived amazingly well showing the quality and craftsmanship of that era.
